Katherine Bates
Katherine Bates has completed a Masters of Education (Literacy and Language) at the University of Wollongong, NSW- Distinction. She has been teaching since 1984 in pre-schools, primary and secondary schools as a classroom and literacy support teacher. Her husband teaches building studies at TAFE and her 14 year old son is a prolific reader and writer.
Katherine spent most of her childhood in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney, apart from a brief time in Townsville as a toddler and in Bangalow Byron Bay as an adult. She is the eldest of five children, read nightly to siblings as they grew up together and often had fights over the ownership of favourite Disneyland books!
Katherine is passionate about teaching and developing all aspects of the children as they learn – the emotional, social and educational. She believes there is a close connection between children’s success in learning to read and how they see themselves in the world.
